DELL
1U rack server with Xeon E3-1220 v5, 8 GB DDR4, and two 1 TB SATA drives
Installed Memory Size 8GB
The Dell PowerEdge R230 fits a single Intel Xeon E3-1220 v5 quad-core processor at 3 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 memory in a 1U chassis. Two 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives are pre-installed behind the S130 software RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10. The platform targets small-business file, print or light virtualization tasks that need rack density without redundant power supplies.
A single 250 W cabled power supply feeds the CPU, memory and both spinning drives during continuous operation. The Xeon E3-1220 v5 maintains its 3 GHz base frequency under multi-threaded load while the DDR4 runs at speeds up to 2400 MT/s limited by the processor memory controller. Drive throughput stays bound to the 6 Gbps SATA interface and the 7.2K spindle speed, so sustained write streams settle at the mechanical limits of the installed disks.
The S130 controller uses the chipset SATA lanes, capping each drive at 6 Gbps and the array at the speed of the slowest member. Two PCIe 3.0 slots provide one full-height x16 connector wired as x8 and one low-profile x8 connector wired as x4, restricting add-in cards to those lane widths. Memory tops out at 64 GB across four DIMM slots using 4 GB, 8 GB or 16 GB DDR4 modules. Network I/O is limited to two onboard 1 GbE ports.
