The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz into a 1U chassis. Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays come populated with 300 GB 15 K SAS drives behind a PERC H330 RAID controller. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory occupy one of twelve DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to 384 GB when a second CPU is added. The platform targets workloads that need fast local storage and redundant power in minimal rack space.

Sustained throughput with 15 K spindles

Eight 15 000 RPM SAS drives deliver consistent random I/O under continuous load, avoiding the write-amplification pauses seen on consumer SSDs. The H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 so parity rebuilds proceed in the background while the array stays online. Redundant 550 W power supplies share the load, so a single supply failure does not throttle CPU frequency or drive performance. Four 1 GbE ports provide steady network throughput for virtualisation or file serving.

Slide-in rails and tool-less drive trays

The server ships with a rail kit that mounts in standard square-hole racks without tools, and each 2.5-inch bay uses a toolless carrier that clicks into the backplane. Installers must seat both power supplies to activate redundancy; a single supply leaves the system vulnerable to power loss. Memory must be installed in matched pairs per processor, so adding capacity later requires purchasing modules in kits of two. The iDRAC8 Express licence enables remote console access, but enterprise features such as virtual media need a separate licence upgrade.
