Dual Xeon Gold 6134 Server

The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a rack-mount server system built for organisations that need dual-socket compute density in a 2U form factor. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors running at 3.2GHz and 1.5TB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed. The chassis supports up to eight 3.5-inch SATA drive bays driven by a PERC H730P RAID controller, and remote management is handled by iDRAC9 with an Enterprise licence.

1.5TB DDR4 with 3TB headroom

The installed 1536GB of DDR4 memory fills half the board's maximum capacity of 3TB, leaving sixteen DIMM slots available for future expansion. This configuration comfortably handles virtualisation clusters, in-memory databases and heavy multi-threaded workloads today, while the remaining headroom allows capacity to double without replacing existing modules. Storage capacity is open-ended because no drives are included; the eight-bay backplane and H730P controller accept SATA HDDs or SSDs in any RAID layout the workload demands.

Dual 750W supplies and iDRAC9

Two 750W power supplies provide redundant power for the dual-CPU, high-memory configuration under typical enterprise loads. The integrated graphics and 10GbE 562T adapter add minimal thermal load, so fan speeds remain moderate in a properly ventilated rack. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables full out-of-band monitoring, power capping and firmware updates without host OS involvement, reducing the need for physical access to the 36 x 24 x 10 inch chassis.
