The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rackmount server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 processor with twelve cores at 2.3 GHz and 32 GB of DDR4 ECC memory. It targets organisations that run virtualised applications, databases or web services and need a dense, redundant platform. The B140i software RAID controller supports SATA RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 for local data protection. No operating system is included.
Redundant 500 W hot-swap power supplies keep the system running if one unit fails. The Matrox G200eH2 GPU provides basic 2D output for remote management consoles without drawing significant power. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays accept SATA drives; the installed pair of 1 TB 7.2 K RPM enterprise SATA disks operate within the thermal envelope of the standard fan array. No NVME drives or media devices are fitted.
The C610 chipset provides 24 DDR4 DIMM slots, twelve per processor socket, allowing growth to the platform maximum when a second Xeon is added. Three internal bay zones accept optional media, NVME or additional 2.5-inch SFF cages to reach 24 drive bays total. Builders who need more than one processor or more than eight SATA drives must source the extra CPU, memory kits and drive cages separately.

Other versions of this model
Same family, different memory, cooler or clock — compare before you commit.
Insert the second CPU into the empty socket, apply thermal paste, attach the heatsink, then populate the 12 DIMM slots belonging to that processor so memory channels are balanced.
The two 500W hot-swap power supplies and the 7.2K RPM SATA drives are the primary field-replaceable units; fans and the Matrox G200eH2 GPU rarely fail.
The single 12-core 2.3GHz processor reaches full utilisation before memory bandwidth or the B140i SATA RAID controller becomes a bottleneck.
