Target workloads

The HPE DL380 Gen9 8SFF is a 2U rack server built around a single Xeon E5-2680v4 processor with 14 cores running at 2.4GHz. It ships with 256GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and supports a maximum of 3TB across its DIMM slots. The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch SAS drive bays and an HPE Smart Array P440 controller for RAID configurations. Integrated graphics and dual 10GbE plus dual 1GbE network ports handle display and connectivity out of the box.

Build integration

A second processor can be added to the empty socket when compute demand grows, and the 24 DIMM slots leave ample headroom for memory expansion beyond the installed 256GB. The eight front-accessible bays accept SAS drives that you supply, letting you choose capacity and redundancy to match the workload. Two 500W Flex Slot power supplies deliver redundancy in a hot-plug form factor, and iLO Advanced remote management is ready for lights-out administration. Rail kits are available separately for rack mounting.

Thermals and power

Dual 500W power supplies share the load, so typical draw stays well within the redundant capacity while fans adjust speed to keep the 14-core CPU and memory subsystems stable. The 2U height allows sufficient airflow across the processor heatsinks and drive cage, keeping acoustic output at a level suitable for standard server rooms. Firmware is updated to the latest stable release before shipment, ensuring fan curves and thermal thresholds reflect current optimisations.
