The SM21BMU31CI3 converts a M.2 NGFF B-Key SATA SSD into portable external storage for USB-C laptops, tablets or desktops. It accepts 2242, 2260 and 2280 drives and draws power from the host port. The integrated USB-C cable and aluminium housing keep the unit compact at 11x5x1.4 cm.

USB 3.1 Gen 2 host link and SATA III drive limit

The enclosure uses a JMicron JMS580 bridge to connect the SATA III 6 Gbps drive to a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C host interface rated at 10 Gbps. UASP and TRIM are supported on compatible operating systems. The practical throughput will not exceed the SATA III ceiling.
