Moving from a single-socket 620-chipset box or a previous-generation 2U server adds 20 cores per socket and doubles memory channels without expanding rack footprint. The jump is worth it when licensing is core-based and the workload scales across 40 threads, but it does not help workloads that need GPU density or more than 24 DIMM slots.

Sustained load behaviour

Dual hot-swap power supplies and the C620 chipset keep all 40 cores fed during long render, simulation or database jobs.
