This configuration suits buyers who need a compact, entry-level server for virtualisation, file serving or light database work using the installed single processor. The 24 DIMM slots allow memory expansion up to 3TB with a second CPU, but only 4GB is fitted today. It is not for buyers who require a second processor, dedicated GPU compute, or hardware RAID with SAS support from the integrated controller.

B140i software RAID limits drives to SATA only

The integrated B140i controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 exclusively for SATA drives. The eight SFF bays accept 2.5-inch SATA SSDs or HDDs, and the two installed 1TB drives use this interface. If your workload demands SAS connectivity or a hardware RAID controller with cache protection, this integrated controller will not meet that requirement.
