The Buffalo LinkStation SoHo 220 is a two-bay desktop NAS that ships with two 2 TB drives for 4 TB raw capacity. It targets home offices and small businesses that want a subscription-free personal cloud with hardware RAID redundancy out of the box.

Build integration

The unit connects through a single gigabit Ethernet port and a USB 2.0 port for additional storage or printer sharing. A closed operating system limits third-party software exposure while supporting FTPS, FTP, AFP and CIFS/SMB for broad client compatibility. RAID 0, 1 and JBOD modes let the builder choose between performance, mirroring or simple spanning.

Sustained-load behaviour

The 800 MHz dual-issue ARM processor and 256 MB DDR3 memory deliver steady throughput for everyday file transfers and automated backups. Maximum power draw is 48 W within a 5 °C to 35 °C operating range. The manufacturer notes that the LS SoHo 720 offers higher performance and 2.5 GbE connectivity for heavier workloads.
