The Buffalo TeraStation 5020 series unit arrives with four 12 TB NAS-grade drives installed for a total of 48 TB. RAID is pre-configured so the appliance is operational immediately after network connection. It targets small-business teams that need secure file storage without a separate drive-purchasing step.

Network throughput ceiling

Two 1 GbE ports and one 10 GbE port provide the only wired uplinks. The 10 GbE link tops out at ten gigabits per second, so sustained transfers cannot exceed that rate even with faster switches. Both 1 GbE ports share the same backplane bandwidth, limiting aggregate throughput when all three ports are active simultaneously.

Fixed 8 GB DDR4 memory

The Annapurna Labs AL524 quad-core processor is paired with 8 GB of soldered DDR4 that cannot be expanded. Workloads such as heavy virtualization, large-scale deduplication or many concurrent SMB sessions will hit this ceiling.
