The Dell EMC PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server fitted with two Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 processors. Each CPU runs at 2.4 GHz base frequency with a 3.9 GHz turbo boost and provides 24 cores. The system is aimed at virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads that demand dense compute resources.

Memory and storage controller limits

Sixteen DDR4 slots support up to 1.5 TB of registered ECC memory using 2933 MHz modules. The integrated PERC S140 controller handles SATA and NVMe drives with RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 levels. Only two 2.5-inch drive bays are available, restricting local storage capacity compared with full-height alternatives.

Blade networking and management
