1U Rack Server for Small Business

The Dell PowerEdge R330 is a 1U rack server built for small businesses and remote offices needing a compact, single-socket platform. It ships with an Intel Xeon E3-1220 v5 quad-core processor at 3 GHz, 16 GB of DDR4 memory, and four 2 TB 7.2K SAS drives managed by a Perc H730 RAID controller. Upgrade From Tower or Older 1U Systems

This server replaces tower workstations acting as file or application servers and older 1U units limited to SATA or 3 Gbps SAS backplanes. The jump is worth it when you need hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60 with 1 GB cache, 12 Gbps SAS throughput, and hot-plug drive bays in a single rack unit. It is not for workloads requiring dual processors, more than 64 GB RAM, or GPU compute.

Limits of 12 Gbps SAS and PCIe 3.0

The H730 controller and 12 Gbps SAS backplane cap sequential throughput at the drive level; spinning 7.2K disks will saturate well below the interface ceiling. Two PCIe 3.0 slots and one internal storage slot limit add-in cards to x8 electrical width and generation 3 speeds. The integrated Matrox G200 video and dual 1 GbE ports restrict modern display and 10 GbE networking needs.
