Can I keep using my existing 6 Gbps SAS drives in the remaining drive bays?

Yes. The chassis accepts up to eight 3.5" hot-plug SAS or SATA drives, and the H730 controller supports 6 Gbps SAS. The two installed 300 GB 15K drives occupy two bays, leaving six open.

How can I confirm the H730 RAID controller is operating correctly after setup?

During POST the H730 initialises and displays its firmware version. In the iDRAC8 web interface the storage tab shows the controller status, the two 300 GB drives, and the configured RAID level.
