The Dell PowerEdge R530 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 V3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 48 GB of DDR4 memory across 12 DIMM slots and two 600 GB 15 K SAS drives managed by a PERC H730 RAID controller. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and an iDRAC8 remote-management module complete the baseline configuration for small-business virtualization or database workloads.

SAS and SATA drive support with H730 RAID

The chassis accepts up to eight 3.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives, delivering a maximum raw capacity of 80 TB. The H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with a 1 GB cache backed by a 12 Gbps SAS interface. Expansion is limited to five PCIe slots — three PCIe 3.0 and two PCIe 2.0 — and networking is provided by a four-port 1 GbE daughter card.

Memory ceiling fixed at 48 GB with one CPU

Installed memory is 48 GB and the board tops out at 48 GB when only one processor is fitted, because each CPU enables six of the twelve DDR4 slots. Buyers who need more than 48 GB must add a second Xeon to unlock the remaining slots and reach the 384 GB platform maximum. The system includes a DVD-ROM drive, Matrox G200eR2 video with 8 MB cache and sliding rails for rack mounting.
