Compact rack server for virtualised workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R630 fits a dual-socket Intel Xeon platform into a 1U chassis with redundant 750W hot-swap power supplies. A single E5-2620 V3 six-core processor at 2.4GHz delivers 12 threads for multi-threaded applications. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across the 24 available DIMM slots.

Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays with H730 RAID

Up to eight SAS or SATA drives connect to the Perc H730 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with 2GB cache. Three PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot remain free for networking or acceleration cards. The iDRAC8 remote management module provides out-of-band control without consuming a PCIe slot.

Sustained operation in dense racks

Redundant power supplies and front-to-back airflow maintain stable temperatures during continuous multi-VM loads. The Matrox G200 graphics controller handles console output without adding thermal load. Memory speed scales to 2400MT/s within the processor capability, avoiding throttling during extended compute tasks. Not suited for deployments requiring GPU acceleration or more than 32GB of installed memory without additional DIMMs.
