The Dell PowerEdge R630 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2637 V3 quad-core processor at 3.5GHz with 32GB of DDR4 memory into a 1U chassis. It targets workloads that need strong single-thread performance in a small rack footprint, such as web serving, virtualisation hosts or database nodes. Buyers who need dual-socket capacity or larger memory configurations will need a different platform.

Redundant 750W supplies and hot-swap cooling

Two 750W redundant power supplies share the load and allow one unit to fail without downtime. The 1U form factor uses high-speed system fans to move air across the CPU, memory and eight 2.5-inch drive bays; acoustic output is typical for a rack-optimised server and not suited to quiet office environments. Power draw scales with processor utilisation and drive activity.

Eight-bay SAS storage and PCIe 3.0 expansion

The H330 controller manages up to eight hot-plug SAS or SATA drives with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60; the unit ships with two 600GB 15K SAS drives. A dedicated PERC slot plus up to three PCIe 3.0 slots accommodate additional networking or acceleration cards. Four onboard 1GbE ports are provided, with optional 10GbE daughter cards available. Remote management is handled by iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller.
