Dual Xeon 2U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack-mounted server system powered by two Intel Xeon E5-2650v3 ten-core processors running at 2.3GHz. It ships with 16GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots and includes a PERC H330 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Two hot-swap 750W redundant power supplies and an iDRAC8 remote management module are fitted as standard.

Expands from single-socket

This configuration replaces single-processor towers or 1U servers that have exhausted CPU threads, memory slots or 3.5-inch drive bays. The jump is worth it when workloads need 40 hyper-threaded cores, up to 1536GB of DDR4 across 24 slots, or eight hot-plug SAS or SATA bays backed by a 12Gbps hardware RAID controller. Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot provide room for additional network or accelerator cards.

Verify rack depth, power connectors

Confirm your rack can accommodate a 26.8-inch deep chassis and that the facility provides two compatible power feeds for the redundant 750W supplies. The server includes a DVD-ROM drive and a four-port 1GbE daughter card; optional 10GbE networking cards use the flexible NDC slot. No operating system, hard drives or drive trays are supplied, so source those separately.
