Dual 16-core Xeon server for virtualisation

The PowerEdge R730 fits into a 2U rack space and runs two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors at 2.1 GHz with 3.0 GHz turbo. 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory is installed across eight 16 GB modules, leaving sixteen slots free for expansion up to 1.5 TB. The system targets midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, VDI, databases or HPC data nodes.

PERC H730 controller and quad-port networking

A Dell PERC H730 1 GB mini controller provides 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity with battery-backed cache and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through. Eight 800 GB enterprise SATA SSDs occupy all front 2.5-inch bays. An Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables full remote management. Two 750 W platinum hot-swap power supplies and ready rails with bezel are included.

Check rack depth and SFP+ cabling before ordering

The 2U chassis requires a rack deep enough for the unit and its ready rails; verify the available depth in your cabinet. Network uplinks use SFP+ transceivers and fibre or direct-attach cables that are not supplied. Memory upgrades must use DDR4 registered ECC modules compatible with the C610 chipset. The board supports a maximum of two processors, so no further CPU expansion is possible beyond the two installed sockets.
