Which memory configuration should I choose for this R730?

The board has 24 DDR4 slots, 12 per CPU. With one processor installed, 12 slots are usable and the current 48GB fills some of them. Add modules in matched sets per channel; supported capacities are 4GB through 128GB per DIMM up to 2400MT/s.

What does the single 1.9GHz six-core CPU mean for real workloads?

One E5-2609 v3 gives six cores at 1.9GHz with no hyper-threading, suited to light virtualization, file serving or test environments. Heavier databases or dense VM hosts will benefit from adding the second supported processor.
