The 2U Dell PowerEdge R730 arrives with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4GHz and 16GB of DDR4 memory. It targets IT teams that need a compact rack server for virtualised workloads, database instances or internal applications. The chassis supports a second processor when demand grows.

Storage foundation included

Two 1TB 7.2K 2.5-inch SATA drives slide into the front hot-plug bays, leaving six bays open for future expansion up to 64TB total capacity. The integrated Dell PERC H730 controller with 1GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across SAS or SATA media. Dual 750W redundant power supplies keep the system running during a module failure.

Remote management built in

The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band hardware monitoring, firmware updates and remote console access without an operating system. A DVD-ROM drive is fitted for legacy media installs. Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot allow additional network or storage cards, while the installed four-port 1GbE daughter card handles baseline connectivity.
