The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built for virtualisation and database workloads that demand high core counts and fast local storage. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. Eight 300 GB 15K SAS drives and a PERC H730 RAID controller provide low-latency storage for mixed read-write applications. The platform targets IT teams that need dense compute in a standard rack footprint.

Redundant 750 W power and thermal design

Dual hot-swap 750 W power supplies deliver N+1 redundancy so a single supply failure does not interrupt operation. The 2U chassis uses directed airflow across the CPU, memory and drive bays to maintain stable temperatures under sustained load. Fan speeds scale with component utilisation, keeping acoustic output appropriate for a server-room environment rather than an office desktop. Power draw varies with processor count, memory population and drive activity.

Eight 2.5″ hot-plug bays and seven PCIe 3.0 slots

The front panel holds eight 2.5″ hot-plug bays that accept SAS or SATA drives, allowing capacity upgrades without downtime. A dedicated PERC slot leaves up to seven PCIe 3.0 slots free for networking, GPU or storage acceleration cards. An integrated iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band management over a dedicated 1 GbE port. The system includes a DVD-ROM drive and ships without an operating system.
