The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drives into a 2U rack chassis, making it suited to archives, backup targets or media libraries that need capacity in minimal height. A single Xeon E5-2650 v3 with ten cores at 2.3 GHz and 128 GB of DDR4 across 24 DIMM slots handles file services and light virtualization. The H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 for flexible redundancy.

Steady throughput under load

Dual 750 W redundant power supplies keep the array and CPU running during a module failure, so sustained write streams stay uninterrupted. The 12 Gbps SAS/SATA backplane feeds all bays without oversubscription, letting rebuilds and sequential workloads maintain pace. Six PCIe 3.0 slots remain free for additional NICs or HBAs if throughput must scale beyond the four onboard 1 GbE ports.

Serviceable rack build

Tool-less drive carriers slide from the front, while the motherboard tray pulls out for memory or processor access without unplugging cables. The iDRAC8 remote management card provides out-of-band console and power control over a dedicated port. Rails and bezel are included, so the unit mounts in standard four-post cabinets and presents a clean front panel for daily datacentre operations.
