The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server built for dense storage workloads. It ships with dual Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processors running at 2.4 GHz and 32 GB of DDR4 memory. The system targets environments that need high drive counts in a compact chassis.

12-bay hot-plug storage with H330 RAID

The chassis accepts up to 12 x 3.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives; three 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives are installed. The Dell PERC H330 12 Gbps controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60, with a maximum raw capacity of 52 TB. Memory tops out at 32 GB across 24 DIMM slots, so large in-memory datasets will require a different platform.

Redundant power and remote management

Dual 750 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation. A DVD-ROM drive is included for media tasks. Networking uses a daughter card with four 1 GbE ports, while optional 10 GbE NDCs can be added. Six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot allow expansion cards, and iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller handles remote administration.
