The PowerEdge R730xd fits 24 drive bays and two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors into a 2U rack chassis. Each CPU runs at 2.2 GHz with a 3.6 GHz turbo across 22 cores, giving 44 threads for virtualisation, databases or HPC data nodes. The system ships with 256 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs are installed for fast boot or caching duties.

24-bay chassis with PERC H730 RAID and quad-port

Twenty-four 2.5-inch SATA bays connect to a Dell PERC H730 1 GB controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes. A quad-port Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links for storage or cluster traffic. iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides out-of-band management over a dedicated port. Twenty-four DIMM slots allow expansion up to 1.5 TB of DDR4 when workloads grow.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies in a 2U form

Two hot-swap 750 W platinum power supplies share the load and keep the server running if one unit fails. The 2U height limits cooler height but the rack rails and front bezel are included for standard cabinet mounting. Power draw scales with CPU utilisation and drive count, so plan circuit capacity for dual-socket operation. Fan speed ramps with inlet temperature to balance airflow against acoustic output in shared data-centre rows.
