Dense storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack system built for workloads that need many drive bays in a compact frame. It ships with dual eight-core Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors running at 2.4 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. Twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives, and three 600 GB 15K SAS drives are installed. A Perc H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache manages arrays at 12 Gbps.

Sustained throughput

The H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, letting you tune redundancy and speed for continuous I/O. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies keep the array and both CPUs fed during prolonged heavy loads. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides remote monitoring and firmware updates without taking the host offline. Four onboard 1 GbE ports handle management and data traffic simultaneously.

Capacity ceiling

Maximum raw capacity reaches 52 TB when all twelve bays are populated with the largest supported drives. Memory can scale to 1 536 GB using DDR4 modules up to 2 400 MT/s, though actual speed depends on the installed processors. Six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot allow extra controllers or networking cards, while the optional NDC bay can add 10 GbE connectivity for higher network throughput.
