Dense 2U storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730xd packs twelve 3.5-inch drive bays and dual 14-core Xeon processors into a 2U rack chassis. It targets organisations that need high local capacity for databases, virtual desktop infrastructure or data-warehouse workloads without expanding to a larger rack footprint.

SATA throughput ceiling

Each of the twelve installed 4 TB drives connects through a 6 Gb/s SATA link to the PERC H730 controller, so sustained array performance is bounded by the SATA interface rather than the controller’s 12 Gb/s SAS capability. The H730 supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, but the drives themselves set the practical bandwidth limit.

768 GB DDR4 registered ECC

Twenty-four 32 GB DDR4 2400 MHz RDIMMs fill every memory slot, reaching half the 1.5 TB maximum the C610 chipset allows. Buyers who need more than 768 GB must replace modules rather than add them, and the board accepts only DDR4 registered ECC memory.
