It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 memory. The chassis supports up to 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives, making it suited to storage-heavy workloads such as software-defined storage, backup repositories or media archives.

Upgrade path from smaller arrays

This system replaces direct-attached storage boxes or 1U servers that have run out of drive bays. The jump is worth it when an application needs more than twelve spindles in a single node or when RAID 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60 must be handled by a dedicated H330 12 Gbps controller without consuming a PCIe slot. A second processor can be added later to double thread count and unlock the full 24 DIMM slots for memory expansion.

Capacity ceiling and headroom

Three 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives are installed, leaving twenty-one bays free for growth up to a raw maximum of 52 TB. The DDR4 subsystem currently uses 16 GB of a possible 1 536 GB, with slots arranged twelve per CPU. Memory speed scales to 2 400 MT/s depending on the processor installed. Six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot provide I/O headroom for additional network or HBA cards.
