The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors, each running at 2.10 GHz with 16 cores and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across four modules. The platform targets virtualisation clusters, database workloads and high-performance computing tasks that demand dual-socket density.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies

Twin hot-swap 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver redundant power for continuous operation. The 2U chassis uses Dell’s engineered airflow path to cool both CPUs, memory and eight 2.5-inch drives under sustained load. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature to keep acoustic output appropriate for a data-centre aisle rather than an office desk.

Eight-bay SAS/SATA backplane with H730P

The front panel exposes eight 2.5-inch bays wired to a PERC H730P 2 GB controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes. A battery-backed cache protects in-flight writes during power loss. The network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, while iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides dedicated out-of-band management. Rails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack mounting.
