The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Silver 4210R processors, each running at 2.4 GHz with ten cores and 13.75 MB cache. It targets IT teams that need dense compute for virtualisation, database or general-purpose workloads in a standard rack. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch drive bays and provides up to eight PCIe Gen 3 expansion slots. Remote management is handled by iDRAC9 Enterprise.

H730P RAID and six SATA SSDs

The bundled H730P controller manages the six installed 120 GB SATA RI SSDs in hardware RAID, delivering redundancy and consistent I/O for boot or application volumes. Two 16 GB DDR4 modules at 2666 MT/s populate two memory slots, leaving capacity for future expansion. Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies, sliding rails, bezel and power cords are included, so the system is ready for rack integration without extra parts.

Eight 2.5-inch bay limit

The chassis accommodates a maximum of eight 2.5-inch drives, and six bays are already occupied by the supplied SSDs. Buyers who need more internal storage must plan for larger drives or external arrays because no additional bays exist. The network daughter card provides two 10 Gb RJ45 and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports, but no optical drive is fitted.
