The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors, each with 16 cores running at 2.1 GHz and a 3.7 GHz turbo. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory installed across eight slots. Eight 800 GB SATA SSDs provide high-speed storage, managed by a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.

2U rack build with redundant power

The chassis occupies 2U of rack space and includes ready rails and a front bezel for standard cabinet installation. Two hot-swap 750 W platinum power supplies deliver redundant power without downtime during replacement. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections for flexible networking. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full remote management and monitoring over a dedicated interface.

Enterprise cooling for sustained loads

Redundant power supplies and the 2U form factor allow airflow tuned for continuous operation under heavy compute workloads. The PERC H730P controller includes a battery-backed cache to protect data during unexpected power loss. Hot-swap drive bays and power supplies let administrators replace components while the system remains running. The platform supports up to 3 TB of DDR4 across 24 slots for future expansion.
