The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors. Each CPU provides 16 cores at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system targets organisations that need balanced compute and storage density in a standard rack footprint.

128 GB DDR4 with 3 TB headroom

Eight registered ECC DDR4 modules deliver 128 GB at 2666 MHz across 24 DIMM slots. The C620 chipset supports up to 3 TB, leaving ample room for memory-intensive workloads. Storage is handled by a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache driving two 800 GB SATA SSDs over a 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA interface.

The H730P caps drive throughput at 12 Gb/s per lane and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.
