The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors, each running at 3.2 GHz with eight cores. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across sixteen modules. The system targets organisations that need dense compute and memory capacity in a standard rack footprint.

Storage And Network Limits

The PERC H730P controller supports SAS and SATA drives with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, plus pass-through mode. Two 400 GB SATA SSDs are installed in the eight-bay 2.5-inch chassis. Networking is handled by an Intel X520/I350 daughter card providing two 1 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, capping wired throughput at those speeds.

Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and hot-swap drive bays allow component replacement without downtime.
