The Dell PowerEdge R940 packs four Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors, each with 12 cores running at 2.3 GHz and a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. That delivers 48 total cores in a 3U rack form factor, suited for virtualization hosts, database clusters or high-throughput batch workloads that benefit from high core density in limited rack space.

Controller, networking

A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache enables RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the eight 2.5-inch drive bays. Two 400 GB SATA SSDs are installed. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, while iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides out-of-band remote management. Dual 1600 W platinum power supplies, rails and a front bezel complete the bundle.
