The PowerEdge R940 packs four Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors at 2.3 GHz with 12 cores each into a 3U rack chassis. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 registered ECC memory and eight 600 GB 10K SAS drives on a PERC H730P controller give a balanced platform for virtualisation, databases and analytics. Quad-port networking with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links plus iDRAC 9 Enterprise management complete the package.

Dual 1600 W platinum power supplies need matching PDU capacity and appropriate inlet voltage. Verify the rack can accept a 3U unit with included Ready Rails and measure usable depth for cable clearance. Forty-eight DIMM slots support up to 6 TB of DDR4, so plan future memory upgrades against the 48-slot limit and registered ECC requirement. The LGA 3647 sockets are fully populated, so no further CPU expansion is possible.
