The DELL PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server built for mission-critical workloads. Four Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors deliver 80 cores at 2.4 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. 256 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory is installed across eight 32 GB modules. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs provide high-speed storage out of the box.

Verify rack space power and networking

Confirm the rack can accommodate a 3U chassis and that power distribution supports dual 1600 W platinum supplies. The LGA 3647 socket and Intel C620 chipset are fixed, so processor upgrades are not possible beyond the four installed CPUs. Network connectivity uses a quad-port daughter card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports; ensure compatible transceivers and cabling are available.

Integrates with PERC H730P and iDRAC9

The PERC H730P 2 GB controller manages SAS and SATA drives with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through, freeing the CPUs for compute tasks. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote management without a local console. Forty-eight DIMM slots allow memory expansion up to 6 TB. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays support additional SATA or SAS SSDs. Ready Rails and front bezel are included for immediate rack mounting.
