Installation and common issues

The chassis accepts up to twelve DDR4 DIMMs and two LGA 2011-3 CPUs, so memory and processor upgrades are straightforward once the top cover is removed. Drive bays are hot-swap 3.5-inch SATA trays; the H730 controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through, but the battery-backed cache must be seated correctly or the array will fall back to write-through mode. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies are hot-swap redundant, yet the unit ships without plastic feet, so rack rails or a shelf are required for stable mounting.

Sustained-load behaviour

Under continuous multi-threaded workloads the twin 8-core Xeons maintain their 3.2 GHz base clock while the platinum-efficiency power supplies share the load evenly. The PERC H730's 1 GB cache and battery backup keep write latency consistent during long RAID rebuilds or backup windows. iDRAC 8 Express provides remote power cycling and sensor monitoring without needing a separate management network, and the dual-port 1 GbE LOM remains responsive even when storage throughput saturates the SAS/SATA backplane.
