Dual Xeon Gold 5118 5U Server

The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U tower server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors running at 2.3 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across four 32 GB modules. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages four 1.92 TB SATA SSDs. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Express remote management complete the platform.

Virtualisation and database workloads

The 24 combined cores and 128 GB memory suit virtualisation hosts running VMware ESXi, Hyper-V or Proxmox, as well as SQL Server and other database workloads. Sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays allow storage expansion with SAS, SATA or SSD media. Buyers needing GPU acceleration or fibre-channel connectivity should look at configurations with additional PCIe cards installed.

PERC H730P RAID controller

The H730P provides hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode with a 2 GB backed cache. It connects to the 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA backplane serving the sixteen front bays. If a workload requires a different RAID level or an HBA-only mode, another controller must be sourced.
