The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 arrives new as a 1U rackmount system populated with two Intel Xeon E5-2623 v3 quad-core processors at 3 GHz and 8 GB of DDR4 ECC memory across 16 DIMM slots. Eight 2.5-inch SFF drive bays and a B140i software RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1 and 5 provide internal storage flexibility. A 550 W redundant hot-swap power supply and Matrox G200 graphics with 16 MB video memory complete the baseline configuration.

Suited for density-focused SATA storage

This server fits buyers who need a shallow 1U footprint with dual-socket compute and SATA-only RAID for boot or bulk drives. The installed 8 GB RAM and 16 total DIMM slots allow memory expansion within the processor limits. Builders who need hardware RAID with cache, SAS drive support, or GPU compute acceleration should look elsewhere. Environments requiring pre-installed operating systems or optical drives also fall outside this configuration.

B140i software RAID limits storage to SATA drives

The onboard B140i controller handles RAID 0, 1 and 5 exclusively for SATA devices, so drive selection is constrained to that interface. Eight SFF bays and two included drive trays define the physical storage capacity. No SSD or HDD is installed, and the 550 W redundant supply powers the completed assembly.
