Two 1 TB 7.2 K SAS drives connect through a Smart HBA H240 controller supporting RAID 0, 1 and 5. Redundant hot-swap 550 W power supplies and eight 2.5-inch drive bays sit in a 1U rack chassis. No operating system is included.

This configuration works for teams that need a second compute node, a remote-office hypervisor or a dedicated backup target with hardware RAID. Buyers who need more than 16 GB of installed memory, more than two drives populated or a second processor from day one should look at a different configuration.

Single-socket E5-2623 v3 limits total cores to four

The installed processor provides four physical cores and eight threads, capping the system at 12 cores per socket when fully populated. The board accepts a second Xeon E5 v3 or v4 chip to reach the 36-core chassis maximum, but that CPU is not supplied. Expansion beyond the single-socket limit requires purchasing a compatible second processor separately.
