Software RAID limits

The onboard B140i controller handles RAID 0, 1 and 5 but only on SATA devices; SAS drives connected to the same backplane will not be managed by this controller. With two 500 GB 7.2 K rpm SATA drives installed, usable capacity is capped at roughly 500 GB in a mirrored pair or 1 TB in a striped set. No hardware cache or battery-backed write-back is present, so sustained write throughput depends entirely on the drive spindle speed.

Redundant power and fixed GPU

Dual hot-swap 550 W supplies share the load and keep the box running if one unit fails. The Matrox G200 graphics chip drives only basic console output; it cannot accelerate any compute workload. Sixteen DIMM slots are fully populated at 128 GB, so any memory expansion requires replacing modules rather than adding them.
