Compact 1U rack server

The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 is a single-socket 1U rackmount system built around an Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.6GHz. It ships with 4GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and two 1.8TB 7.2K SAS drives on a Smart HBA H240ar controller. Dual 500W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation in space-constrained data-centre racks.

Memory and storage headroom

The board offers 24 DDR4 DIMM slots with a factory ceiling of 3TB, although the supplied configuration stops at 4GB. Eight 2.5-inch SFF bays accept SAS or SATA media; the H240ar handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 at 12Gbps SAS and 6Gbps SATA. Workloads that outgrow the single processor or the installed capacity will need additional CPUs and memory modules to reach the platform maximum.

Interface and expansion limits

The C610 chipset links the processor to the H240ar and on-board Matrox G200 graphics through PCIe 3.0 lanes that are not user-accessible beyond the internal drive backplane. No external PCIe slots are populated in the 1U chassis, so additional controllers, networking adapters or accelerators cannot be added without moving to a larger form factor. The 12Gbps SAS backend caps sustained throughput per drive well below the controller’s theoretical peak.
