This HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 is a 1U rack server built for compute-dense environments. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2640v3 eight-core processor at 2.6GHz and 48GB of DDR4 ECC memory. The chassis includes eight 2.5-inch SFF drive bays and an H240ar storage controller supporting multiple RAID levels. Two redundant 500W hot-swap power supplies are installed.

Fits virtualization hosts not GPU workloads

The single eight-core CPU and 48GB RAM suit small virtualization clusters, web tiers or file-and-print roles where thread count matters more than single-thread speed. The Matrox G200 graphics with 16MB video memory cannot drive graphical workstations, CAD or GPU-accelerated tasks. Buyers who need more than one processor or more than 48GB of memory should look at a different configuration.

H240ar controller with eight SFF bays

The Smart HBA H240ar provides 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA connectivity with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the eight front drive bays. No drives are included, so the buyer must supply 2.5-inch SAS or SATA disks that match the controller. This single specification decides whether the server can meet the required storage performance and capacity.

Should I choose the single-processor 48GB configuration or add a second CPU?
