The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server designed for enterprises that need dense compute and storage in a standard cabinet. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4GHz and 4GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Dual 500W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the platform running during a module failure. The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch SFF drive bays ready for SAS or SATA media.

Storage controller defines drive compatibility

The on-board Smart HBA H240ar handles 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA links and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the eight bays. No drives are installed, so you must populate the trays with 2.5-inch disks or SSDs that match the controller’s SAS and SATA interfaces. The board also offers optional NVME and universal media bay upgrades in specific bays, but those kits are not included.

Tool-less rails and trays simplify racking

The server slides into a rack on tool-less rails and the eight drive trays use captive thumbscrews for quick media swaps. Memory expansion uses 24 DIMM slots, twelve per processor, accepting 4GB through 64GB DDR4 modules up to 2400MT/s. A second Xeon v3 processor can be added to reach 36 total cores and 3TB maximum memory. Buyers who need 3.5-inch drive support or a pre-loaded operating system should look elsewhere.
