The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors, each running at 2.4GHz with eight cores. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed across the 24 DIMM slots. Two 600GB 15K 6Gbps 2.5-inch SAS drives provide storage, managed by a Smart Array P440 controller with 4GB flash-backed write cache. Dual 500W redundant hot-swap power supplies support continuous operation.

Suits virtualisation hosts; not for GPU compute

This configuration suits organisations consolidating virtual machines or running memory-intensive databases that benefit from 32 logical threads and hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics subsystem provides only basic console output, so workloads requiring GPU acceleration, 3D rendering or video transcoding should look at a different platform. Sixteen SFF drive bays allow further SAS expansion, but the installed 16GB memory may limit dense virtualisation without additional DIMMs.

The server provides 24 DIMM slots, twelve per processor, supporting DDR4 ECC registered modules up to 64GB each at speeds up to 2400MT/s depending on the CPU.
