The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rack-mount server designed for data-centre environments that need reliable compute and storage capacity. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz and 4 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The platform supports up to two processors and 24 DIMM slots for future expansion.

8 TB SAS storage with RAID flexibility

Two 4 TB 3.5-inch 7.2K SAS drives provide 8 TB of raw capacity, connected through the Smart HBA H240ar controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The 12-bay LFF chassis offers headroom for additional drives, while the controller handles both 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA devices. Installed memory is limited to 4 GB, so memory-intensive applications will require immediate DIMM upgrades.

Redundant power and open OS choice

Dual hot-swap 500 W power supplies deliver redundancy for continuous operation. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics controller provides basic video output for management tasks. No operating system is included, leaving the software stack entirely to the deployer. The server uses DDR4 memory exclusively and does not support other DDR generations.

Will the E5-2630 v3 processor and H240ar controller work with my existing 3.5-inch SAS drives?

The H240ar controller supports 6Gbps SAS and 12Gbps SAS, so your existing 3.5-inch SAS drives will connect directly to the 12 LFF bays without adapters.

How do I confirm the Smart HBA H240ar is healthy after installation?

During POST the controller initialises and reports drive status; the iLO management interface then shows logical drive health, firmware version and any degraded arrays.

Does the server include drive trays for the two 4TB SAS drives and are rails supplied?

The two 4TB 7.2K SAS drives ship with their 3.5-inch trays installed; rack mounting rails are not included and must be purchased separately.
