The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server fitted with two six-core Xeon E5-2643 v3 processors running at 3.4 GHz. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across 24 DIMM slots. The Smart HBA H240ar controller provides 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA connectivity with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across eight 2.5-inch drive bays. Redundant 500 W hot-swap power supplies are included.

Sustained multi-threaded throughput

Under continuous load the dual-socket configuration delivers 24 hardware threads at the base 3.4 GHz clock without relying on turbo bursts. The C610 chipset and 2400 MT/s DDR4 channels keep memory bandwidth stable during long database or virtualization runs. Redundant power supplies and hot-swap drive bays allow drive or PSU replacement without downtime, while the H240ar controller maintains RAID parity reconstruction in the background.

Upgrade from single-socket or Gen8

This server replaces single-socket rack units or earlier Gen8 models when core count, memory capacity and 12 Gb SAS throughput become bottlenecks. The jump is justified for workloads that saturate 12 to 24 threads and need up to 3 TB of DDR4 across 24 slots. It is not suited for buyers who need NVMe boot drives without adding the optional bay 2 kit, or for deployments requiring GPU compute beyond the integrated Matrox G200eH2.
