The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads that need dense compute and storage in a standard cabinet footprint. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz and 8 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The chassis provides 24 small-form-factor drive bays and two 500 W redundant hot-swap power supplies for continuous operation.

SAS 6 Gbps interface and RAID limits

The installed Smart Array P440 controller with 4 GB flash-backed write cache connects to the drives over a 6 Gbps SAS link, so each 600 GB 15 K rpm disk is capped at that throughput. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are supported, but the two-drive configuration restricts practical choices to RAID 0 or RAID 1 unless more drives are added. The controller’s 12 Gbps internal speed cannot be used by the current 6 Gbps drives.

Redundant power and 24-bay expandability

Dual 500 W hot-swap supplies allow one unit to fail without downtime, and both can be replaced while the server runs. Twenty-four front-accessible 2.5-inch bays let administrators add capacity or performance incrementally without removing the server from the rack. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics chip provides basic console output only, so a discrete GPU would be required for any graphical compute tasks.
