Server identity

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 processor with twelve cores running at 2.3GHz. It ships with 8GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and a Smart Array P440 controller backed by 4GB flash-backed write cache. Dual 500W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation in data-centre racks.

Storage capacity and headroom

Two 1TB 7.2K SAS drives occupy two of the sixteen 2.5-inch small-form-factor bays, leaving fourteen bays free for additional SAS or SSD media. The P440 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, so the installed pair can be mirrored for resilience or expanded into larger arrays. Memory currently uses two of twenty-four DIMM slots; the platform accepts up to 3TB of DDR4 when both processor sockets are populated.

Interface and expansion limits

The server uses a 12Gb/6Gb SAS interface for internal storage and the Intel C610 chipset for I/O. A second Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processor can be added to double core count to thirty-six and unlock the remaining twelve memory slots. Without the second CPU, half the DIMM slots and half the potential PCIe lanes remain unavailable. No operating system is included.
