The ICY DOCK MB882SP-1S-1B adapts a single 2.5" SATA hard drive or solid-state drive for installation in a standard 3.5" drive bay. It accepts drives up to 9.5mm thick and maintains full SATA 6Gbps transfer rates without speed reduction. The black bracket matches the exact mounting-hole pattern of a 3.5" hard drive for secure fitment in desktop chassis or server trays.

Check bay width and drive height

Verify that your chassis provides a 3.5" SATA drive bay with the standard mounting-hole spacing shown in the product images. Ensure the 2.5" drive you intend to install does not exceed 9.5mm in height, as thicker drives will not fit the tray. Confirm your system uses SATA I, II or III interfaces; the bracket also supports SAS but provides no protocol conversion.

Replaces makeshift brackets or tape mounts

This tray replaces improvised mounting methods such as zip-ties, adhesive pads or loose screws that can vibrate or block airflow. The bracket uses a patented tool-less design so no screws are needed to secure the 2.5" drive; it mounts directly into a standard 3.5" bay using the drive's own side holes, and no SATA data or power cables are included.

The product lists SATA I, II and III support — which version should I match to my SSD?

The converter is backward compatible with all SATA revisions; install any 2.5" SATA SSD or HDD up to 9.5 mm thick and it will negotiate the highest speed both the drive and your motherboard support, up to 6 Gb/s.

Will the 6 Gb/s headline rate actually be reached inside my PC?

The bracket passes the native SATA signal through without a bridge chip, so a SATA III drive connected to a SATA III controller will operate at the full 6 Gb/s link rate, limited only by the drive and host capabilities.
