This desktop processor uses the LGA 1151 socket and runs at a base frequency of 3.4 GHz. It has four cores built on a 14 nm Kaby Lake architecture with a 65 W thermal design power. The chip includes 6 MB of L3 cache and 256 KB of L2 cache per core. It is sold as an OEM unit without a retail box or bundled cooler.

Sustained load behaviour on 65W Kaby Lake

Under continuous workloads the 65 W TDP limits how long the CPU can hold its peak frequency before thermal throttling reduces clocks. The four cores share 6 MB of L3 cache, so heavily threaded tasks keep the cache busy and power draw steady. Without a high-capacity cooler the processor will settle at lower frequencies to stay within its thermal envelope. Adequate case airflow is required to maintain performance over extended periods.

OEM installation notes for LGA 1151

The processor drops into an LGA 1151 motherboard after the socket lever is lifted; no special tools are needed. Because this is an OEM package there is no stock cooler, so a compatible aftermarket heatsink and thermal paste must be supplied separately. A common issue is forgetting to update the motherboard BIOS for 7th generation support before fitting the chip. Bent socket pins or uneven mounting pressure can also prevent the system from posting.
